Spencer In No Rush

Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde safety Richard Spencer doesn't want to rush into a decision, and he'd like to take some visits, while he waits for some more offers to mill in...

Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde safety Richard Spencer (6-2, 191), is one of the hardest hitters in the Inland Empire, and he's already impressed three schools enough to land an offer.

"My three offers are still Nevada, Syracuse and UTEP," said Spencer. "They all want me as a safety."

Spencer said other schools he's interested include Fresno State, Arizona and Arizona State, as well as Boise State, Cal and UCLA.

Earlier this summer, Spencer took in a visit to Nevada.

"They basically took us through the school, showed us the campus and the stadium and showed us how they treat the players," said Spencer. "I like that they put the players first and the coaches are more hands on. Coach Nigel Burton is a great coach and I really like Coach (James) Ward. That is another plus for me, that the DB coach is recruiting me, so I can tell the person at the position wants me."

Spencer said five schools are standing out for him.

"My top five is Syracuse, UTEP, Nevada and then Arizona and Fresno State," said Spencer.

When it comes to visits, Spencer said he wants to take the five allotted visits.

"I want to take all five of them, but I still have to figure out my bye weeks, how far I need to go," said Spencer. "If I can get a bye week, I'd like to go out and visit Syracuse."

Spencer is also hoping to take an unofficial visit to Arizona at some point during the season.

This fall, he'll be playing some receiver for Rancho Verde as well as his role at safety.

Academically, he is fully qualified with a 2.8 and a 1390 SAT score.
