Recruiting: Pair To Visit This Weekend

Oklahoma State doesn't prefer to bring in visitors on game weekends but sometimes it is unavoidable and that seems to be the case this weekend. Linebacker LeRon Furr of Columbus (Carver), Ga., and defensive end Darius Hart of Pearl River (Miss.) C.C. will both make official visits to the OSU campus. An official visit means the entire trip for the athlete and a parent can be paid for by the school.

LeRon Furr is a highly rated linebacker that helped to lead his Carver team to a 15-0 season and a Georgia state championship last season. The 6-3, 213-pound linebacker with 4.6 speed made more than 100 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three fumbles caused, and recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Carver has started out 2-2 this season, but Furr has said he feels they will get on a roll. Furr is also set to visit Duke and Arkansas, in addition to Oklahoma State. He has offers from a number of schools including North Carolina State, Texas A&M, and Mississippi State.

Darius Hart is originally out of Poplarville, Miss. The 6-6, 255-pound Hart has really grown since starting out at Pearl River C.C. by redshirting in the 2006 season. Back then he was a defensive back but he has had a growth spurt and a period of physical maturing. He is considered a strong prospect and is part of a 4-0 team at Pearl River this season that is holding opponents to an average of 100 yards a game rushing and leads the MACJC in total defense.

It is unusual for the Cowboys to bring in visitors on a game weekend. The OSU recruiting philosophy is to have coaches and players spend as much time as possible with prospects on a recruiting visit. That can't happen on a game weekend as the major focus on a game weekend is to win the game.

In case you are wondering Oklahoma State has had some success in recruiting on game weekends, especially with junior college players. Both J.C. defensive linemen Ryan McBean and Larry Brown visited on a game weekend before giving verbal pledges and eventually signing and playing at Oklahoma State.
