Chris Barrett Commits To USC

Chris Barrett, a 6-5, 250 pound athlete from Tustin (Calif.) has committed to USC. Barrett told us just last Sunday that he was planning on going through the recruiting process but decided to follow his heart and announce for the Trojans.

"I realized I didn't want to waste anyone's time," Barrett said. "I was always going to USC but I was taking my trips for the fun of it. I decided that wasn't fair to the other schools and by committing early, it would give them a chance to go recruit other players and not put any more attention on me.

"Coach Carroll and Coach Pola came over to my house last night for a home visit and just before they were getting ready to leave, I told them I was coming. They were so excited they started hugging me and screaming. I was excited too and I'm glad I have this decision out of the way."

The obvious question for Barrett was will his best friend and teammate Sam Baker be just around the corner?

"I hope so but Sam is actually considering a few other schools," Barrett said. "We still talk a lot about being a package and everything but I know he does have a sincere interest in Oregon, Ohio State and Florida. I think he might still take his trips but hopefully he'll go ahead and commit to USC before too long."

Barrett is one of the top players on the West Coast at both tight end and defensive end. We have him rated as the top tight end on the West Coast and if we were to rate him with the defensive ends, he would be our No. 2 guy in the region behind only Trojan commit Lawrence Jackson.
