GA RB Lands SEC Offer

Alfred Moreland, running back at Banneker High School in College Park, Ga., garnered his first SEC offer last week. This SEC West program now leads for the Peach State standout.

"Last week I talked to one of the brothers of a coach (Tracy Rocker) at Ole Miss," Alfred Moreland stated. "Coach Rocker's brother was at our school. I guess he told him about me because Coach Rocker called me later and offered me a scholarship."

"Ole Miss is actually at the top (leader) now. Boston College is second. Georgia Tech is behind Boston College. Georgia Tech has been recruiting me lately."

Moreland talked more about the Rebels.

"I've heard that Ole Miss is in a good area," he commented. "There's a lot of good coaches there. They're in the SEC. That's my favorite conference."

Moreland will make a short trip to Atlanta this weekend. He has an official visit scheduled for next month.

"I'll be at the Georgia Tech game this Saturday," he said. "I'm not sure if it'll be an official or unofficial visit. I'll be talking to Coach Preston (Al Buzz Preston) about that tomorrow."

"I set up an official visit with Ole Miss on November 1st," he said. "Me and Emmanuel [Lartey] are going at the same time. This is the only official that I know of right now."

An offer from the hometown Yellow Jackets could change things.

"If I got an offer from [Georgia] Tech, it'd make things kinda sketchy," he reported. "It doesn't matter where I go, but I would like to be kinda close to home. Right now there's nothing that will change my interest in Ole Miss. We'll have to see down the road."

The versatile back has done everything for 5-2 Banneker. He reports his offensive progress through seven games.

"I have about 1,300 all-purpose yards," he said. "I have nine touchdowns, excluding the ones that I've had called back. I've had four touchdowns that were called back. I have about 800 yards rushing. I have about 200 yards receiving. I also have a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. I have 10 total touchdowns on the season."

Moreland has worked diligently to raise his grades, and the hard work has paid off.

"I'm actually fully qualified now," he said. "My grades are starting to get where they need to be. I pulled up my GPA with some classes that I took last summer."
