Khairi Usher and his Meridian (7-1 4-0) football team are off to a hot start and are on the verge of capturing back to back district titles. On the recruiting front Usher took a recent trip West to check the ULM Warhawks in action.
"ULM has a lot of speed and defensively they hit hard and fundamentally are sound and well coached. I saw they had a lot of raw talent out there, lots of speed".
"It was nice being able to watch them warm up before the game and talk to the coaches. I liked the way the team handles adversity. Coach Weatherbie talked to me and said they were really interested in me coming to ULM. He said I can come in and help the team quick".
Evidently the Warhawks made a good impression on Khairi. "I really like ULM. The campus, the coaches are what draws me to ULM. It's more of a family atmosphere, its not all about football, for them it's all about helping you grow into a man".
For Usher ULM was the third stop after visits to South Alabama and Alcorn State. "When you leave you think you know where you want to continue your career but then you get back home and have to look at all the positives and negatives. I have to make the best decision for me and my future. On one hand I want to get it out of the way but I really just want to focus on the rest of my senior season and then see where I stand".
