One of the leading rushers in California is Visalia (Calif.) El Diamante running back Stefphon Jefferson, and the interest in Jefferson is starting to really pick up...

Visalia (Calif.) El Diamante running back Stefphon Jefferson (5-10, 195), is quietly putting together one of the best seasons of any running back in the Golden State.

Jefferson has rushed for almost 1,900 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Miners, one of the top rushing totals in the state.

Two schools have offered Jefferson, Nevada and Fresno State, and more schools are contacting him.

"I'm hearing from Boise State, Oregon, Texas A&M, Cal Poly, Portland State and then UCLA has been checking out my film," said Jefferson. "I definitely want to play running back and that's what schools are recruiting me for."

The two WAC foes, Nevada and Fresno State, lead for Jefferson, and they've been recruiting him hard.

"Right now, the teams that are in recruiting battle has been Nevada and Fresno State," said Jefferson. "People around Visalia are telling me I should go to Fresno State but we'll see what happens in the end."

Jefferson is scheduled to visit Nevada next month, his first official visit.

"I haven't really set a time that I want to decide," said Jefferson. "My top five schools are Nevada, Fresno State, Oregon, Boise State and Cal Poly. I definitely want to take a few visits."

Academically, Jefferson is in fine shape with a 3.5 GPA and a 1300 on the SAT.
