Tariq Allen is a Dominant Run Stopper

Irving MacArthur just wrapped up a disappointing 3-7 season in which the Cardinals lost their last three district games by a total of eight points. Head Coach Brian Basil took time out of his postseason wrap-up to talk to Burnt Orange Beat about his defensive leader, middle linebacker Tariq Allen.

Tariq Allen committed to Texas after visiting several Junior Days last February. Scout.com ranks Tariq as the #6 middle linebacker in the country.

Coach Basil said that Tariq Allen (6-3, 225) had a really good senior year. "We were in a tough situation. We were so young in the secondary that people threw on us. But when they did run, Tariq was a dominant run stopper," said Basil.

Allen finished his season with a bevy of impressive stats including 122 total tackles (34 solo), 16 TFLs, four quarterback hurries, four sacks, three pass break-ups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Allen brings more than physical abilities to the table. "He is a defensive leader. He was elected captain for our team," added Basil.

Allen is planning on graduating in December and enrolling at Texas in January. Basil said, "He took care of business in the classroom over the summer to be ready to start at midterm."

As a junior, Allen was a 7-5A first team all-district selection after racking up 123 tackles and six sacks.
