Thigpen Reacts to Kiffin Hire

When it was announced that Head Coach Philip Fulmer would not be returning next season at Tennessee many thought that there was potential for major fallout in the recruiting class, however that has not proven to be much of an issue so far. Recently we caught up with Manassas, Va., native Damien Thigpen to get his thoughts on the hire of Lane Kiffin.

Stonewall Jackson High School running back Damien Thigpen insisted that he was solid to Tennessee no matter who the coach was when we last spoke with him and after catching up with him on Tuesday night we can see he is a young man of his word. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound four-star athlete is still solid in his decision and is excited to talk to his new coach.

"I'm excited about the hire of Coach Kiffin and am just ready to meet him and get the chance to talk to him," Thigpen said. "I know that he was with USC in the past and then was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders for a while, so he obviously has a lot of experience. I know his father is also one of the greatest defensive football minds in the history of the game."

Thigpen actually took a visit to Tennessee for the Kentucky game and had a great time in Knoxville.

"My family and I went down this weekend for the Kentucky game and got to meet with the athletic director and talk to him about the future of the program and how I fit in which was a great conversation," Thigpen explained. "There were a good amount of people there for Coach Fulmer's last game despite the weather and I made sure to thank him for giving me the opportunity to come to Tennessee. It was a little bittersweet obviously, but like I said I'm with Tennessee and ready to do whatever Coach Kiffin needs me to do for the team."

Track season is now starting up for Thigpen who runs in the 55, 300 and 500 meter relays.
