Washington has Good Rapport with Michigan

Saint Stephen, SC OL Quinton Washington has seen a number of college coaches come through his school in recent weeks, including a few from the Michigan. Washington's high school coach, Art Craig shared his thoughts the Wolverines' visit with GBW. He discussed Washington's relationship with the Michigan coaches, his visit schedule, and more.

Things had been so quiet on the recruiting front for Saint Stephen (SC) Timberland high standout Quinton Washington since his Michigan visit that he may have slipped into the background for many observers, but that certainly isn't true of the Wolverines.  Two Michigan assistants dropped in on the talented lineman's school last week to reiterate just how much of a priority he is for the Maize & Blue.

"I think it went well," said head Timberland coach Art Craig.  "If I'm not mistaken, Coach Frey and Coach Gibson were down and saw us.  It might have been Thursday because I was getting Quinton (Washington) ready for the Shrine Bowl.  It seemed to go well. I think they are going to try to have Coach Rodriguez visit sometime in January, I think."

While present Frey painted Washington a very clear picture of how he'd fit in if he were to play his college ball in Ann Arbor.

"From everything that I gathered, he'll switch from tackle to guard," Craig said.  "Guards going to be the fastest position that they're going to try and play him at.  From all indication that I have, if he comes in and does what he's supposed to do, he'll have a chance to play as a freshman.  They feel like he can do that."

At this point the Wolverines are still benefitting from the strong impression they made on Washington during his official visit a few months back.  Now they're in position to try to build on that.

"I think it's a good rapport (between the Michigan coaches and Quinton)," Craig stated.  "I don't see Quinton holding back or anything like that.  I think he's very comfortable with Coach Frey and I think Coach Frey has done a great job of establishing a relationship with Quinton."

Other programs are working hard to establish similar relationships with Washington.  At the same time, they're also working hard to secure one of his coveted official visits.

"Maryland, South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina, Tennessee… those are the ones that I saw come by (the school)," Craig recalled.  "He has not taken any other (official visits) yet.  He has scheduled visits to, if I'm not mistaken to South Carolina, January 14th, 15th, and 16th or whatever that weekend is.  Then I think the following weekend he is going to go to Tennessee."

"I think he's going to wait to decide on the other dates because he is playing in the Under Armour Game on the 4th (of January).  I think that he's looking at Clemson or maybe North Carolina."

GoBlueWolverine will have more on Washington in the coming months.
