Ricky Steele gave his commitment to Coach Beckman just before Christmas. The 6-0, 181 cornerback from La Salle High School in Cincinnati had switched his commitment from Bowling Green to Toledo after the coaching changes at both schools. Rocket Digest caught up with Ricky yesterday to talk about his commitment to Toledo.

"Going into my visit (to Toledo) I knew the coaches were good and understandable with many things, but when I got there I felt comfortable and could really see myself playing for them in future years," Ricky told Rocket Digest about making the switch to Toledo.

Steele was likely on Toledo's radar because of new co-defensive coordinator Mike Ward making the switch from the BG coaching staff to Toledo, but his recruiting coach for the Rockets is Alex Golesh. Golesh was at Oklahoma State this past season.

Like many of the recent commitments to the 2009 recruiting class, Ricky is very impressed with head coach Tim Beckman. "Coach Beckman seems to be a very energetic, inspiring coach that will demand and receive great success," said Steele. "He is going to bring Toledo back on top where it was, and later look at BCS games and contending on a very high level. Coming from the program that he is coming from (Oklahoma State), I'm sure that will happen."

Ricky hopes to make an impact for the Rockets right away. "When I get to Toledo I plan on making an impact right away at cornerback and maybe some offense," said Ricky. He explained further about offense, "A little slot back and some receiver."

And Ricky is working hard already to prepare for Toledo next fall. "Right now I workout five days a week at Explosion Fitness Solutions."

Steele has excellent speed, being hand timed at 4.48 in the forty yard dash.

There is no question that Ricky Steele is excited to be part of Toledo's 2009 football recruiting class.
