How strong is Webster's commitment?

Kayvon Webster is one of the top defensive back prospects in the state of Florida and despite the fact that he made a commitment a few months ago, several other schools are still going hard after him. Read on for the latest scoop.

Kayvon Webster committed to Miami during his senior season. While he remains committed to the Canes, he's still keeping his options open a bit. He talked about the latest.

"I'm still committed to UM but I'm just seeing what else is out there, making sure that I'm making the right choice," Webster said. "I went to South Florida with two of my teammates last weekend and this weekend I'm going up to West Virginia."

Webster, 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, talked more about his trip to Tampa last weekend.

"It was nice," he said. "I really like how the coaches were keeping it real with me. Coach Leavitt was telling me that I'll be his guy next year. He said I'll be able to play as a freshman. He used to coach my coach and my coach said he doesn't mess around like that. Coach Leavitt and two other South Florida coaches came to my house recently, too. They're on me pretty hard."

Next up for the talented cornerback prospect is a trip to West Virginia.

"They've been recruiting me pretty hard lately," he said. "The thing I like about them is they play five DB's on the field. They run a 3-3-5 and so that's good for the defensive backs they have. I'm gonna go and check it out to see how I like it."

Following his trip to West Virginia, Webster will spend the following weekend in his hometown -- visiting Miami.

"I'm going to UM on the 23rd," he said. "I like Coach Hill, my recruiting coach. UM needs DB's and so I know I could go in there and get some playing time right away. Plus, it's home and I think they'll be on their way back up. You know what's weird, though, is that I never really talk to Coach Shannon. I talked to him briefly one time and that was it. My parents will be going with me down to UM on my visit next weekend."

Webster said he's not sure whether or not he'll take a visit on the weekend of the 30th. If he does, he has a couple schools in mind.

"I don't know yet," he said. "I'll either go to Florida or Kansas State probably. I'm not too worried about it though because that's my birthday weekend. My birthday is Super Bowl Sunday so I'll probably just chill here."

Webster is a three-star prospect according to He was scheduled to play in the Dade/Broward All-Star Game this Friday but chose not to.
