McDermott gets Miami Offer

One of the most talented interior line prospects in the Sunshine State is Shane McDermott from Palm Beach Central High School. He is blessed with prototype size and has great mobility. Still only 16, he is not wrestling as a junior to concentrate on football. He is a hard, dedicated worker who loves the weight room.

Shane McDermott received great news on Wednesday, an offer from Miami , "I am excited, hey that is Miami and I am from South Florida, it is still early, it means a lot to me. They were not showing much interest until I sent them my highlight tape ....I can't wait to get down there and see it. I will go down for Spring practice when it starts up in a couple weeks." Jeff Soutland(OL) and Clint Hurtt(DL) are the lead recruiters for the Canes.

McDermott has received offers from West Virginia and Cincinnati, he plans on going up to see those two schools, "They both offered early in September and I have good relationships with them, I am looking forward to seeing them this Spring, I think it is early April I will see them back to back." Both of these schools have a couple of great recruiters on him, Mike Elston for the Bearcats and Doc Holliday for the Mountaineers.

A couple of in-state schools round out the top 5, "Florida State and USF. Both have shown interest, they are in Florida, and I feel I can help them." Palm Beach Central has three players at USF so there is some familiarity with what they have to offer. FIU has also piqued his interest and they have officially offered, he is being recruited by Coach Phil Galiano. The McDermott family has been through this before, Shane's brother(Tyler) went through the process and is at Colorado State, "He just tells me to enjoy it, it only happens once, and to pick the school that I see myself excelling at."

Two schools stand out for their lack of contact, "Michigan and Ohio State. From a distance I have always admired them and the way they play, I really don't know much about them, but I would not mind hearing from them." One factor to consider is that Shane is going to try to make a relatively early decision on where he is headed, "I would like to commit sometime in the late Spring or Summer, there is no rush, I just hope to know by then."

Do you want to stay in state? "I'm open to leaving, my brother is a four hour flight and he has not had any problems, I'm fine with leaving, but it would also be great to stay in Florida." There are a host of other schools who are in contact with Shane: Auburn, Clemson, UCF, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina.

McDermott recently checked in at 6'3, 256 at the UnderArmour combine plans on having a busy summer, "I am going to the FSU Nike Camp, D-1 Camp down here, and will hopefully go to a few University Camps." Taking care of business off the field is also important to Shane, he has a 3.6 GPA and a 950 on the SAT.
