Saturday Ben had was one of nearly 200 high school products to attend Mississippi State's invitation only junior day.
"State's was great," said Ben. "We met up and the head coach (Dan Mullen) talked to us. They fed us good and we got to see the facilities and all of that. It was real nice. I had a good time over there."
The talented offensive lineman reports that having the chance to get to know more about Coach Dan Mullen's plans for the future was the highlight of the event.
"I was real impressed with the head coach," said Beckwith of Coach Mullen. "He's real intense. He said they were going to be re-building that program and he is talking about playing for championships. He really believes in what he is doing. He talks about his players a lot and he says it all begins with them. He seems like a real good coach."
Ben is patiently waiting for his first offer and he thinks that ice breaker may come from one of his instate schools.
"Ole Miss, State and Southern seem to be real serious about me," said Beckwith. "I hear the most from them. I have talked to LSU and few other schools off and on, but I haven't been up there for anything yet. Ole Miss, State and Southern are probably sending me the most stuff in the mail too."
When Ben makes his college decision, he will base that decision primarily on the relationship he has with the coaches recruiting him and their ability to weld him into a more well rounded player on the college level.
"The coaching staff is real important," said Beckwith. "I like to hear about the program, but I want to hear about you developing me as a player. Facilities are all nice, but it's mainly about coaches. I like all the pretty stuff and that's all important, but I want to play for some good coaches that are about winning championships and making me a better player."
