Tenn. linebacker adds offer

Justin Maclin, from Ridgeway High School in Memphis, Tenn., will rank as one of the top outside linebacker prospects in the country. Maclin has added a new scholarship offer where he took a visit this past weekend.

"I got a new offer from Illinois," said Justin Maclin. "I actually took an unofficial visit to Illinois this past weekend."

"The visit to Illinois was nice. It was nicer than I thought it would be. I got to talk to coach [Ron] Zook in his office. I was up with a friend of mine who goes to Christian Brothers [Jonathan Brown]. They showed us the classrooms and facilities."

"Coach Zook said he wants me to be there. He said it would be a better school. I would have a chance to start my freshman year. Most of their linebackers are leaving early. They are nice. I like them and seem like are a nice group of people. They told me what I want to hear."

Maclin is uncertain if a return visit to Champaign will happen.

"I really don't know if I would go somewhere like that, but I liked it," he said. "It's not far from home. It's a five-six hour drive. It seems like a very homey place to be. I really liked and everything about it. Jonathan Brown really liked it up there."

The elite Tennessee prospect expects to attend the LSU or Alabama spring game in April. He lists favorites as Alabama, LSU and Tennessee.

"I would say right now Alabama is my overall favorite," said Maclin. "Right now I am not thinking about a decision. I am just going to enjoy taking my visits and checking schools out."

Alabama: "When I went there for Junior Day it just felt like the place I needed to be."

LSU: "LSU has been my favorite school from the start. They were the first school to offer me. My dad and coach Porter, the running backs coach, are real good friends."

Tennessee: "It's close, and they seem to want me really bad."

Spring practice will begin May 6 for Ridgeway High School.
