Jalston Fowler visits Tide practice

Jalston Fowler, running back from Prichard-Vigor, Ala., is committed to the Crimson Tide and took an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa. Fowler will miss the 2008 high school season, but will graduate in December with enrollment scheduled for Alabama in January.

"I went up to Alabama last Thursday night," said Jalston Fowler. "I stayed up there until Saturday. Everything went really good. I visited the campus and went to practice. I hung out with B.J. [Scott] and Julio [Jones]. It was real good to hang out with them."

"The practice went real good. They practiced good and worked. I was watching the running backs, and I sat in the running back meeting. That was really cool. I had a tough time understanding everything, but I know you have to get used to it."

Fowler spoke briefly with Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

"I talked to coach Saban before I left," Fowler said. "He was telling me I need to stay in shape and keep working hard. He is looking forward to me getting up there."

Fowler stands 6-feet, 247-pounds and hopes to shed a few pounds before arriving in Tuscaloosa in early 2010.

"The coaches have said they want me to lose a couple pounds," he explained. "They said they want my playing weight to be 230-pounds. I am really going to work on my footwork and my cuts."
