Recruiting: Browning Wide Open, Undecided

We do take requests and love it when we can make our subscribers happy, one of whom inquired about defensive back prospect Barry Browning out of Fort Worth (Everman), Texas. The 6-1, 171-pound Browning is a talented athlete that currently has offers from Stanford, Duke and SMU. Those three schools would lead you to believe we are talking about not just a good football player but a good student.

"Yes sir, I have a 3.64 grade-point average and I am ranked 11th in my class (academically)," said Browning with pride. "That is a class of 269 students, so I'm 11th of 269."

Athletically, Browning was All District 8-4A last season in the secondary. Currently, he is running track for Everman while waiting on spring football to get underway.

"I run the 4X100 and 4X200 relays and I also high jump," said Browning. "We were in a meet at Azle last week and we are in a meet at Grapevine this week starting on Thursday. We didn't do so well in the relays last week because we were missing some of our guys and had to just throw some teams together. In the high jump I finished second with a 5-10, but that is way off my best. My best is 6-4."

Track makes it hard for Browning to get to schools but he said he is going to try to hit nearby SMU and OSU and OU in the next couple of weeks.

"I have the three offers from Stanford, SMU, and Duke," said Browning. "I am getting a lot of recruiting attention, letters and stuff from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State , Florida, TCU and about 12 other schools.

"I am wide open and undecided right now. I know a lot of schools, including Oklahoma State, are coming by to check me out during spring football."
