Florida corner has offer and favorite

Jeremi Wilkes is a talented cornerback prospect from Tampa (Fla.) Catholic and Scout.com caught up with him to talk about the latest on the recruiting front.

Tampa Catholic has two national recruits this year in wide receiver Christian Green and offensive lineman Chaz Green. A third major college prospect is emerging, as well, in the form of cornerback Jeremi Wilkes.

At 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, Wilkes put his name on the recruiting map with a strong junior season that included 41 tackles and two picks.

"I have real good technique playing corner," Wilkes said. "I stay true to that. I'm always very aware of what the receiver is doing and I watch a lot of film and understand what's going on out there."

The standout corner has already caught the attention of several college programs with one holding the advantage right now.

"Florida State and Georgia Southern have already offered me," he said. "Florida State has always been my top team. I'd love to play there so when they offered it was good. They caught my eye when I was young and I've always watched them a lot. I'm very interested in them."

In case things don't work out with the Noles, several others are getting involved.

"I also like UCF, FAU, Georgia, and Notre Dame but those ones haven't offered me yet," he said. "I'll be looking at the academics and the opportunity to play right away."

Inside the classroom, Wilkes carries a 2.3 GPA and hasn't reported a test score yet.
