Martin Takes In Spring Game

One of the top prospects in the state of Mississippi, Carlton Martin of Madison Central, had the chance to attend the Mississippi State spring game on Saturday. The trip to Starkville was a first for the standout defensive lineman. The experience has Martin looking at the Bulldogs in a new light.

"I went to Mississippi State yesterday," said Martin. "Bryon Bennett, Kenny Barnes and our defensive line coach went with us."

During the course of the day, Martin and his teammates were able to get to see the lay of the MSU campus.

"My recruiting coach, Coach Husdspeth, took us around the golf cart and let us see the facilities," said Martin. "It went real well. It was real nice."

Carlton reports that he and Coach Mark Hudspeth "hit it off" during their first face to face meeting.

"Coach Hud was real nice and real cool," said Carlton. "He said he was real excited about us coming up there for the spring game. He told me how good they were going to be next year and that they want us to come up there."

The main event of the day was the annual Maroon and White game. Carlton was pleased with the level of competition.

"The game went real well," said Martin. "They have some good Wide receivers and a good QB," said the Madison Central standout. "Their defensive line is huge and they were getting a lot of pressure on the quarterback. I thought Trevor Stigers stood out. He had a nice sack."

Carlton characterized his excursion to Mississippi State as "better than expected".

"It was better than I thought it was going to be," said Martin. The jumbotron is real big and everything up there was real big and real nice. I had a good time."

Before leaving town, Carlton had the chance to speak with first year head coach Dan Mullen.

"Coach Mullen said they have been signing more Mississippi players than anyone else," said Carlton. "I liked hearing that. They are in my top schools. Right now I would say they are up there with Ole Miss and Tennessee."
