Texas Kicker Talks Recruiting

It is not often that you find a Division 1 caliber linebacker that is being heavily recruited as a kicker. Well, that is the case for Southlake Carroll (TX) High School athlete, Cade Foster. The 6'1/200 prospect has at least one offer at both positions but would rather kick in college. Scout.com's Baron Flenory caught up with Foster to get the scoop.

Q) How do you feel recruiting is going so far?

It's going really well. I got a big offer from Alabama. I was excited about that one and Washington and Colorado also offered me. Stanford and UCLA said that they are coming in the spring and that they will offer then.

You play linebacker and kicker, what are you being recruited for?

Kicker. I think that is what I want to play. The only school recruiting me for linebacker is Colorado but I want to kick.

Q) How do you feel about each school that has offered/recruiting you?

Alabama - I like Alabama a lot. They are definitely in my top. They are going to be tough to beat because they will need a kicker by the time that I'm up there as a freshmen. I like that I can come in and start freshmen year. Schools that want me better offer quick because I'm really liking Alabama a lot.

Washington- I heard good things about the campus but I would need to a visit before I could say how I feel about them.

The only other school in my mind that would be near Alabama is LSU. They said that they have a kicker now and they will evaluate him and see how he does this year. If he doesn't perform as well as they would like, then they will offer me.

Q) What are the things you will look for in a school when it is time to decide?

Do I like the campus. Aside from football, I will have to be there for 4 years so I have to like the campus life and the people. Next, I will look for a school with a winning tradition. I want to win games and get a ring. Then, I have to get along with the coaches.

Q) Is distance a factor?

Not at all. I'm not afraid to spread my wings and get away.

Q) Is there one school out there, that if they offered, you would commit on the spot? If so, why?

No, Alabama is that school. I wanted to commit right away, I just held off. That Alabama offer will be hard to beat.

Q) Do you have a commit date or time frame in mind?

I want to commit by early June.

Q) Fans want to track your progress, what camps, spring games/practices, and/or unofficial visits do you have planned for the near future or have you already attended?

I'm visiting Washington and UCLA this summer. Next week, I'm going to the Kohl Kicking camp and then I'll do a couple Chris Sailor Kicking camps. I might go to the Alabama Sailor Kicking camp.

Foster was recently selected to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
