Oregon Sits Atop Kekuewa's List

As one of the premier offensive linemen on the Hawaiian Islands, Keaau (HI) Kamehameha School's Keli'i Kekuewa is preparing to hit the camp circuit to see how he stacks up against some of the mainland's best. The recruiting process is long and arduous, but for now, one school stands out amongst all the rest.

Do you currently hold an offer from Oregon?

"No, I do not have an offer."

Have you had any contact with Oregon?

"I recently went to their Junior Day and started contact with all the coaches over there. I have [Offensive line] Coach [Steve] Greatwood's number and [they're] still sending out e-mail and I'm receiving e-mail from them right now."

How was the Oregon Junior Day?

"It was good. I've been to the campus before and it was good to see it again, but I actually got to sit down with the coaches and really see what their game plan was for this year and how they can help me out. I [also] got to see more of their facilities [and] I got to meet some of their players and ask them how the recruiting for them helped them make their choices for Oregon."

How often are you in contact with Coach Greatwood?

"Before I went to Junior Day, I was talking to him and then I saw him at Junior Day and I haven't talked to him since then."

Did Coach Greatwood hint at the possibility of a potential offer maybe coming through?

"I don't think so. He just talked about how he wants to work more with me in the future and at the camps this summer."

What is your overall interest in Oregon?

"I have a very high interest in going to the University of Oregon."

How would you describe yourself as an offensive lineman?

"I feel like I'm calm. I'm aggressive, but calm."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"Not yet."

Are most schools looking at you at center, or guard, or another position?

"I guess because I'm not as tall as a tackle, so I've been mostly looking at center, more center, but guard I can play both."

Do you have a preference?

"Not really, but I would prefer playing center."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Hospitality and the overall feeling of, [me] being from Hawaii, I would like Polynesian background, you know, having that feel...having Polynesians on the team."

Do you currently hold any offers from other schools?

"No I do not."

What other schools have been showing interest?

"I've been getting letters from other people like Colorado, Cal, Washington and just recently UCLA and Miami."

Is anyone leading at this point?

"Yeah, I have a top three right now. Oregon, Colorado, and Cal right now...that's in order, that's how I see it."

Are you planning on going to any camps later this spring or in the summer?

"This summer we're getting ready to go to the University of Oregon camp and possibly the All-Poly camp in Hawaii -- if anything, we'll going to go to the Game Time camp in Oahu -- and I'm going to the Oregon State skill camp before the Nike skill camp in Eugene, and then I'm going to Washington for their line camp."

Have you taken any unofficial visits outside of your visits to Oregon?

"I took an unofficial visit last year that was to Oregon and I haven't gotten anything yet except offers for Junior Days from Colorado and stuff like that."
