Incoming San Jose State freshman wide receiver Noel Grigsby of Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles was a participant in Sunday's title game of the inaugural Junior World Championship at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
In the third quarter of the contest USA quarterback Bryce Petty connected with Grigsby on a five-yard completion that brought Team USA to the Team Canada 7-yard-line. Unfortunately the drive came up empty as SMU-bound placekicker Mike Loftus missed a 27 yard field goal wide to the left.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Grigsby also had one special teams tackle in the fourth quarter. For the tournament Grigsby had two catches for 14 yards.
Grigsby will be reporting to SJSU later this month along with the other incoming Spartan freshman. He earlier told USA Football that he feels the experience at the JWC gave him an edge in experience coming into the college ranks.
"I'm ready for college football earlier," he said. "It (playing on Team USA) lets me know what I'm doing well and where I can improve."
