Bottomline: Dwayne Garrett's Jason Jewell breaks down Scottsdale (Az.) Chaparral RB Dwayne Garrett, one of AZ's top returning players.

Name: Dwayne Garrett
School: Scottsdale (Az.) Chaparral
Size: 6-0 180
Position: RB

There is a lot to like about this productive back. Last year he carried Chaparral to the 4A1 state title game by rushing for just under 2,000 yards and scored 27 TDs. He is a good sized back that hits the hole in a hurry. Explosive player that is a one cut back. Definitely not a dancer. He finishes his runs well, always falls forward and will push the pile. Garrett has deceptive speed because he is a long strider. But is rarely caught from behind on film.

An area of concern; is he an every down back at the next level?. He is not a big time threat to catch the ball out the backfield.

If Garrett had elite speed, he would have multiple Pac 10 offers. At the high school level his speed is more than good enough to be an outside runner, but will he be fast enough to do it at the BCS level?

Right now he has offers from mid-major programs Colorado State, Idaho, San Diego State and NAU. And many may ask why a player that has been this productive has just four offers at this point. My guess is because he falls in a tweener type of category. As it stands now, he would be a between the tackles runner but at 180, is he big enough to take that kind of pounding? Is he fast enough to get to the corner? If he can improve his speed, I think he could get Pac 10 type offers. Regardless, he is one of Arizona's top prospects and wrth a look from any college coach.
