Prospect: Evan Washington
High School: DeSoto (TX) High School
Previous Projected Position: OT
New Projected Position: OG
Stock: Down Previous Midland Rank: #44 - Four Star
Estimated Rank: Top 100 - High 3 Star
Evan Washington is a four star prospect, ranked 44th overall in the Midland Region, and is in the Scout.com National 300 and quite frankly, he has not lived up to the hype.
Washington was praised for his athleticism and his size and that has not changed. He has tremendous athletic ability for his size. His explosiveness off the ball, his footwork in space, and his ability to cut off backers at the second level is a beautiful thing to witness.
He was also praised for being new to the game. And again, that has not changed. Washington is still only a few years in and he has a lot of learning to do. So combining his physical prowess with his lack of experience, Washington was a "No-Brainer" national recruit. With that said, Washington has not progressed like anticipated. To be so athletic, Washington really struggles to protect the pass. To be a highly touted left tackle, Washington was consistently beat by players of a lower caliber. Speedy defensives ends are his crypto-night.
Washington's skill set fits the mold of an interior offensive line. With his size, footwork, lateral movement, and overall athleticism, Washington should be more dominant. It is for those reasons, Washington's stock is down.
Understanding that he has HUGE upside, Scout.com still feels that he can be a impact player at the next level. He just is not at the same stage as some of the other offensive lineman in the region or nationally.
