Notre Dame has already landed verbal commitments from two Cincinnati products, Alex Welch and Andrew Hendrix, but they liked to add a third in offensive tackle Matt James (6-foot-7, 260-pounds). James has put recruiting on the backburner for now, so don't expect many changes until his senior season is complete.
"I don't have any official visits scheduled yet," James replied when asked if he had scheduled any trips. "I'll probably schedule them for after the season, we'll see how it works.
James listed Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Ohio State, and Florida as the schools he'd like to see in person. He had already traveled to Notre Dame, Cincinnati and Ohio State for unofficial visits. Then in towards the end of his summer he went to check out the Florida Gator program.
"It went good," James said. "(The program) was very well run. There weren't any players around at the time, but I talked to the offensive line coach, other coaching staff members and their strength coach.
"(I want to visit again) and see comfortable I am there. I think that is one of the main things, I think.
James is still in contact with the Notre Dame coaching staff, and he recently spoke with the Notre Dame offensive line coach.
"I talked to Coach Verducci," James said. "He asked how things are going and he talked about the game they were playing the next week."
James had his own business to take care of, as St. Xavier took on one of Indiana's powerhouse programs.
"We just played Indianapolis Cathedral," Matt explained. "We won. I think the final was 19-10. They're a good program down there. They're really competitive in the state every year. They just beat Carmel and Warren Central.
"I played decent. They didn't bring many guys to my side. They brought one or two guys off the edges, here or there. The team did pretty well. We need to get better though.
"It was very hot," he said. "We played in the Colts stadium, Lucas Oil Stadium. It was really fun just seeing the size of the place. The roof was open, so it was pretty cool."
