Canes land DB commitment

The University of Miami had a big victory against ACC opponent Virginia on Saturday afternoon and not long after the game the Canes added a commitment from one of the top defensive back targets,

Keion Payne had become one of the state's most heavily recruited cornerback prospects and on Saturday evening he decided to end the process.

"I committed to Miami today," Payne said. "I grew up a Miami fan and this is where I wanna be. I'm done now and won't be taking any other visits."

Payne, 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, was recruited heavily by a number of programs. He was being actively recruited by Florida State, Ohio State, West Virginia, and Tennessee at the time of his commitment. He talked more about why he picked the Canes.

"They're a great program with a lot of history of winning and producing great players," he said. "They're on the way back up to the top and I really like the coaches there and the opportunity for a DB to come in and play next year. Plus, it's close to home and it's just where I wanna be."

The standout defensive back has helped lead his St. Thomas Aquinas team to an undefeated season so far. He claims a 3.0 GPA in the classroom and hasn't reported a test score yet.
