OL Max Garcia Profile
Max Garcia's official visit to Clemson on Saturday went well enough to pull into a close second place behind Maryland.
Still in the hunt is Vanderbilt, which he swapped with Clemson.
"They all have their advantages and disadvantages that I'm sorting out right now," Garcia said.
He recently told CUTigers that one of the biggest advantages working in favor of Clemson is its proximity to his home in Norcross, Ga.
As the Tigers continue the hunt for the ACC Atlantic Division crown, Garcia recognizes that Clemson is among the upper echelon in the conference.
"They're one of the better ACC teams this year and they're always going to bowl games," he said.
A 2010 offensive tackle, Garcia believes he'd get a serious chance to play after Chris Hairston graduates in two years.
"There's a great opportunity for me to come in and take over that position when he leaves. It's a great opportunity for me to get playing time," Garcia said.
Upgrades to the stadium, including the West End Zone stick out too.
"They have great facilities with all the things they've built," Garcia said. "They're amazing. It's all state-of-the-art."
Thanks to the fans, he also appreciates the atmosphere in Death Valley. He had a first-hand experience of what it's like in Tigertown for a big-time game.
"It was wild. The fans are really supportive. They're into the game and really focused on the team, not worried about anything else," Garcia said.
Hosted by Tajh Boyd while he was in Tigertown, Garcia went through pre-game meetings and rode on the bus to the stadium with the team. Afterwards, he went to Boyd's dorm to hangout and spend time with other recruits who were on campus.
Garcia said he also talked a good bit to Columbus (GA)-Carver HS teammates and 2010 commits David Beasley and Corey Crawford.
"They were saying that Clemson is a great school and they'd love to see me there a lot more," Garcia said. "They told me to give Clemson a chance."
While making his official visit to Maryland, he said the Terrapin staff took helped make the trip more accommodating for his mother, who's a native of Puerto Rico.
"My mom speaks English, but just doesn't speak it too well. It's her second language," Garcia said. "They took the next step in getting some people who were Hispanic to show us around. They didn't have to do that."
Comfortable with the staff at Maryland, he's been told by the coaches in College Park how much they could use him. Plus, he's a big fan of the journalism program, which he plans to make his major.
Garcia said Norcross finished its season at 5-5. He finished all 10 games with passing grades and had nine pancake blocks in the final game of the season.
"My coach said I'm best lineman he's coached. I think that was pretty cool that he spoke to me like that," he said.
Invited to play in both the Army All-America Bowl and Under Armour All-America Game, Garcia said he's yet to decide which of the two he'll chose, but he's close in deciding which one.
Garcia said he doesn't have a timetable in deciding which school he'll commit to, but that could be on the way soon too.
