Trip Report - Kevin Smith

He's been one of the fastest risers up recruiting boards over the past few months but once he arrived at Washington, Centennial (Compton, Ca.) WR Kevin Smith knew he had found a place he could play football. spoke with Smith as he awaited his flight back home and he updated us on things including when he could end up making his decision...

"I loved everything about it," Smith told Sunday evening. "Will Shamburger was my host and he really broke things down for me. What I needed to do and what it was like being a player and student there.

"Coach (Steve) Sarkisian drove me and my grandma around and he asked her what she thought and she said she loved it. He asked me what I thought about it and I said I loved it too."

Smith noted that the highlight of his trip was getting to witness Washington's 30-0 win over cross-state rival Washington State.

"Man it was great seeing things," Smith said. "From the coaches, to the players, to the crowd and the atmosphere. I mean, it was unbelievable and when they did their clap session right after breakfast that morning, it was really cool the way they did things."

Smith has shot up a lot of recruiting boards recently after only having played five games as a junior in 2008 and Washington was one of the first schools to extend him an offer.

"Washington is the leader, for sure," Smith said. "I don't have any trips planned and I will probably have a decision ready to go this week sometime."

Does that mean he's destined to be a Husky?

"I'll say they are by far my leader and say that I will make my decision sometime this week," Smith said coyly.

We'll continue to keep tabs on Smith and update news as it breaks on his situation.
