From The Crab Bowl…Nick Forbes is at practice this week for the 2009 Maryland Crab Bowl. The Baltimore Team and Washington Team are practicing this week leading up to the game on Monday, December 21st at 7 p.m. We caught up with the highly regarded linebacker who will suit up for the Baltimore Team.

Nick Forbes is one of the most physically impressive players I have seen at the high school level. He more than passes the eye test. He has a very muscular, solid build. He moves very well and has lots of athleticism. He had another big year defensively but also had a tremendous year rushing the ball. At practice he has shown why he is one of the higher regarded players in the game. He ended his recruiting process back in June by committing to California. He talks about his season, the recruiting process and the upcoming all-star game.

"It was a good season," said Forbes. "It didn't end the way we wanted but overall it was ok. The guys played hard and me and fellow teammate Jeremy Grove wanted to finish on top."

Forbes is regarded as one of the best defensive players in the entire region but he also had a big year rushing the ball. Forbes finished with 1,519 yards rushing, averaging over 12.0 yards per carry.

"I got to run a lot this season. I did pretty well but it is about winning and we needed to do more of that this season."

With offers from schools around the country Forbes surprisingly ended his recruiting before his senior year and committed to Cal.

"I received offers from many great schools. I took some visits and the decision became easy for me. Cal has everything I am looking for. It is a great academic school. The football program is great. I really like the coaches and campus. It was definitely the best fit for me. I can't wait to get there."

Forbes has versatility coaches desire at the next level. He has the size (6'0", 225 LBS.) and speed (4.6 forty) that enable him to make an impact at several positions. He can cover receivers like a safety but play the run like a linebacker.

"I will be playing linebacker I won't be playing running back. I think I can help on defense and I can play some different positions. I will do whatever the coaches need me to do"

Forbes talked about what the Cal fans can expect from him next year. "I play hard. I am aggressive and can play sideline to sideline. I am always trying to get better. I will work hard to try and get on special teams right away and see what happens from there."

The Crab Bowl invites the best players from around the state so it was no surprise that Nick was amongst the first couple players selected. Still he expressed humility when discussing his invitation.

"It is a great honor. I look forward to playing with and against the other great players you read about all season. They are the best of the best here and meeting the guys from the different teams has been a good experience. I am excited to compete and play hard."
