Teammates visit Alabama

The University of Alabama returned to the practice field Monday after a week off for spring break. A couple of prospects were in Tuscaloosa visiting the National Champions. The teammates talked with about their trip.

"We took a visit to Alabama today," said Hunter Long, offensive center from Memphis-Briarcrest Christian, Tenn. "I went down with my dad and Tray Becton. The visit was awesome. We got there this morning. We sat in meetings, talked to players and went to practice this afternoon.

"I liked the visit a lot. The practice was awesome. I really liked the attitude of the players. I liked how they responded to the coaches. You can see why they are so good on Saturdays."

Long spoke with Alabama head coach Nick Saban and spent the day with offensive line coach Joe Pendry.

"We talked to coach Saban for about five or six minutes after practice," he said. "He seemed real down-to-earth. I spent most of the day with coach Pendry. I knew him from when he was recruiting my brother [Austin Long].

"He is one of my favorite coaches. He is a great teacher and knows the game well. I really like how he teaches and handles his players. He was telling me I am definitely a center prospect for them."

The Tide hasn't offered Long a scholarship at this point, but the Tennessee native has UA high on his list.

"Alabama is definitely one of my top schools," Long said. "I have nothing bad to say about Alabama. Everything there is perfect. I like the coaches, facilities and the overall attitude."

Wide receiver and teammate Tray Becton enjoyed the trip to the Capstone as well.

"The visit was nice," Becton said. "I liked it a lot. I had a great time. I hung out with coach Cignetti. I did the same thing Hunter did. I sat in the meetings. I saw what they wanted to improve. I like him a lot. He is one of the best receiver coaches I have gotten to know.

"I liked their practice. It was very intense. The players bonded pretty well. I was impressed with Julio Jones. I learned a lot from watching him. I was also impressed with Marquis Maze."

Becton talked more about his interest in the Tide.

"I like Alabama because I know if I attend University of Alabama I will be on a winning team," he said. "Coach Saban is a great coach. I know when I leave I will have a great education and be a better player."

The talented receiver holds a scholarship offer from Memphis. He is receiving interest from Alabama, Arkansas and Oregon. Long holds scholarship offers from Memphis and Murray State.
