One of the better receivers in the West, Smith was one of the more talented pass-catchers we saw in Vegas last month at the Badger/New Level 7on7, playing for the Team 1925 All-Stars with Victor Blackwell and Jordan Payton.
Having played at a school that was married to the running game, Smith is now at Desert Oasis, where he figures to be a key part of the offense.
Originally from Arkansas, Smith has been in Vegas for his entire high school career and has been diligently hitting camps in search of his first offer.
"Fresno State and Arkansas could be close," said Smith. "I waiting for Fresno State's camp, Coach Keith Williams said if I come and ball like they expect, they'll offer. And then at the Arkansas camp in June, they said they'll offer. I'm also hearing from Hawaii and New Mexico State."
Smith, though, has one school out West he's most enamored with.
"I'm trying to get on to UCLA," said Smith. "I'm going to UCLA's 1-Day Camp and hope I do well there."
Smith attended the USC Rising Stars Camp last year and will also be there this summer, but said he hasn't heard from the Trojans since Pete Carroll's departure.
"I'm looking to get out of Vegas, so I'm not really looking at UNLV, but their new receivers coach knew me, so something could happen with them," said Smith.
Smith works out weekly with Wideouts Inc., and Payton, one of the elite 2012 prospects nationally, and he said the weekly training has improved his game.
"I work out with my coach, Juan Walden, and we do drills and deep balls, the cones, ball drills, tennis ball drills, and it's making me a lot better," said Smith.
As for the recruiting process, Smith is in no rush to make a decision.
"I want to take my time, take my visits, go look at some schools and look at the good coaches who are like my trainer," said Smith. "Coach Keith Williams (at Fresno State) is that kind of coach and what I'm looking for. But I'm taking it one step at a time."
Smith is planning on doing a Nike Camp and will be in Alabama this summer for the Badger/New Level National 7on7 Championships.
Academically, he has a 2.8 GPA and will take the SAT in the spring.
Last fall, Smith had 18 catches for 260 yards and three touchdowns, ran for over 200 yards and had two interceptions.
