UNC on Top for Dorsett

After giving it some thought for the last week, Phillip Dorsett is ready to crown a school his leader.

"North Carolina is my top school right now," Dorsett said. "I've been building a relationship with Coach [Charlie] Williams. I talk to him a lot."

Williams, UNC's wide receivers coach, has been recruiting Dorsett, a 6-foot, 170-pound wide receiver from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Aquinas, since last football season.

However, Dorsett's most recent correspondence with UNC occurred late last week when John Blake visited Aquinas and later called Dorsett.

"He just basically asked if I liked Carolina," Dorsett said. "I said ‘Yea.' We just talked about the school and how I would fit into their offense."

Dorsett says Blake and Williams have discussed having him playing slot receiver.

Last season, Dorsett emerged as an offensive weapon for nationally ranked Aquinas. He ended the season with 30 catches for 594 and ten touchdowns.

Besides UNC, Dorsett is strongly considering Florida, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, and Wake Forest.

"Those schools, I feel like I can see myself playing there and playing early," Dorsett said. "… And I just see myself fitting in there."

All five favorite schools have offered Dorsett a scholarship. In total, nearly 20 schools have offered him.

Dorsett aims to make a verbal commitment before the football season. He'll take a major step in that direction when he visits UNC.

"I'm working on coming up [to UNC] this summer," Dorsett said. "I might participate in a camp – I'll have to find out. If not, it will be just a regular visit."

Dorsett will also try to visit Ohio State this summer and could stop by Florida and/or Wake Forest on his way to UNC.

"Basically, I'm looking for a family atmosphere, a great college tradition, and [coaching] stability," Dorsett said.

A spring practice at Miami is the only recruiting trip Dorsett has made, thus far.

In addition to the Tar Heel coaches, Dorsett is hearing pro-UNC sentiments from teammate Giovanni Bernard, who signed with the Tar Heels in February.

"We talk about [UNC] a lot," Dorsett said. "He tries to get me to come up there. He wants me to commit. But he always tells me to go where my heart feels.

"We're pretty close. I would like to play with him again at the next level – at North Carolina."
