Carson Barnett attracting attention

Carson Barnett, quarterback from Landmark Christian in Fairburn, Ga., is still drawing a ton of interest from a lot of major programs. He has added to his list of awards on the quarterback camp circuit in the last two weeks and has received positive feedback from two former NFL quarterbacks.

"I went and threw with Brad Johnson (NFL quarterback from 1992-2008) up in Athens on Saturday," Carson Barnett stated. "We threw, did footwork drills, went through the route tree, we went over all the coverages, and did all sorts of different workouts.

"Brad said I have great feet, accuracy, and arm strength. He likes my fundamentals and how I study the game. He has given me some great feedback.

"I went to the Football University camp up in Gwinnett (County) on May, 1st. They rated me the number one quarterback at the camp. And with my performance there they invited me to Top Gun (Top Gun Quarterback Academy).

"My coach at the camp was Mike Kruczek (NFL quarterback from 1976-1980). He said that I was the best quarterback he'd seen in 11 different camps throughout the eastern part of the United States."

The fundamentally sound signal caller has been a hot commodity for several programs since his spring practices began.

"Vanderbilt and UAB both came by my school this week," he commented. "I talked to Coach (Des) Kitchings from Vanderbilt. And I talked with the quarterbacks' coach (Tyson Helton) from UAB. I'll be going to both of their camps this summer.

"Georgia has come by the school. They talked to Coach Dallas (Landmark Christian head coach) about me. Coach (Brian) Knorr from Wake Forest came by my school. And Auburn should be here to see me at my practice tomorrow. They said they'd be here this week to see me.

"Coach (Chip) Lindsey from Troy came to watch me throw in a morning workout last week. They're very interested. He told my coach he likes my arm strength, footwork, and pocket presence. He invited me to their camp through my coach. I will be at that camp this summer."

Barnett will compete in camps dring the next two weekends. He will head out to the west coast for the second camp, and he'll pay a visit to a Pac-10 program.

"I'll be at the Elite 11 Camp this weekend at the University of Alabama," he said. "Then the next weekend I'll be at Steve Clarkson's invitational camp (Dreammaker Camp) out in Santa Barbara (California).

"When I go out to California I'm gonna visit UCLA. I'm gonna visit with Coach (Norm) Chow and Coach (Rick) Neuheisel. I'm looking to meet with them and talk about their program. Both of those coaches have great offensive minds. I'd like to see what it's like out there, and how they run things."

Barnett is a selfless player who always puts his teammates first.

"I was asked to be a part of the show, 'The Ride'," he commented. "Hutson Mason was on the show last year. They take some of the top quarterbacks in country and whoever wins that show gets to go to the (U.S.) Army All-American game. I had to turn it down, though. I didn't think it'd be a good thing for our team. I never wanna come across as selfish."

The Southwest Metro-Atlanta prospect is open to every program at this point in time.

"Everything is pretty wide open right now," he said. "I don't have any offers yet, so I'm gonna wait until I get some offers. After that I'll start naming some leading schools."
