The Dalton High School standout has Auburn on his short list of favorites. On Saturday he spent the day at AU's second Big Cat Weekend, which is similar to one the Tigers held a year earlier.
"It was a real fun day," Dantzler says. "It was a lot of fun to compete a little bit in non-football things. I was glad I was able to make the trip to Auburn. It rained a little bit, but it was still a good day."
Dantzler and the other prospects were divided into teams to compete in a variety of games. Asked what his best event was, the big tackle says, "I did the M&M race where you had to move M&Ms with a straw. I did okay and it was fun."
The 2011 prospect says he enjoyed spending time with the coaches as well as hanging out with other prospects. "I talked to Gabe Wright and got to know him better," the lineman says. "I talked to Xzavier Ward and I hung out with Reese Dismukes and Thomas O'Reilly. I have known them for a long time."
Dismukes, who is from Spanish Fort High, and O'Reilly, who is from Pope High in Marietta, Ga., are offensive line commitments for Auburn. Wright is an outstanding defensive line recruit from Carver High in Columbus, Ga., and Ward is an offensive tackle prospect from Colquitt County High in Moultrie, Ga.
Dantzler says he likes the Big Cat Weekend concept that gave him a chance to get to know the coaching staff better as people. "It was neat," he says. "It is the first time I had been to anything like the Big Cat Weekend. It wasn't a lot about football."
Dantzler says he feels fortunate to be one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the South. "I am really pleased with all of the schools that have offered and recruiting has been a blast," he says. "God gave me a lot of talent and ability. It has been a blessing to go through all of this."
