Detroit DT Gets First Offer

Detroit Central (Mich.) defensive tackle Eric Crume landed his first scholarship offer on Monday, as a Big East school came calling for the 310-lb plugger.

Although most who follow recruiting likely have not heard of Eric Crume, anyone who saw the Detroit Central defensive tackle at the Michigan Showcase this spring or the Sound Mind Sound Body camp the last few years knows he can play.

A strong, stout 6'1, 310-lber, he helped lead Detroit Central into the playoffs last year, and now has his first scholarship to show for it, as Syracuse offered him this week.

"Man I was excited. He said he was offering me a scholarship. I just have to get the rest of my transcript to them so they can mail out the official letter."

Crume's recruiter is running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley, who has ties to east side of Michigan.

"Coach Wheatley, I've known him ever since I started playing high school. He's good. He keeps it honest. He tells you what you need to hear rather than what you want to hear."

Crume says he has heard from Richmond, Morgan State, Akron, Central Michigan, Michigan State, and others. The Zips will be one of the schools he checks out this week as his recruitment starts to heat up.

"I'm going out to Syracuse next Monday. I'll be at Akron Friday, and I've been trying to find another camp to go to for the next week after I leave Syracuse."
