Georgia Prospect Talks Duke

Head Coach David Cutcliffe has been consistent in his desire to increase team speed across the board. This mantra has been evident in his first few recruiting classes, and is also holding true for the 2011 recruiting list. GA safety/OLB prospect Chris Tavarez fits this mold very well. Chris was kind enough to take a few minutes out of his weekend to answer a few questions for TDD.

TDD - What is your opinion of Coach Cutcliffe and the Duke staff?

Chris Tavarez - Coach Cutcliffe and Coach Middleton are great coaches. They were the first team to really reach out to me and tell me how they felt about my skill and playing ability. I love how real they are with me. I feel like Duke wants me not as just a football player, but as a student.

TDD - Do you currently have a top 5?

CT - My top 5 would be in no particular order: Duke, Maryland, Tulane, Kentucky, and UCLA

TDD - What is one thing you find appealing about each school in your list?

CT - The one thing that all the schools i mentioned have in common is that they all excel in sports outside of football, which shows that the schools have much history, and rich tradition. I also like that they all excel in the academic field. Academics are first in my household, so i want to go to a team that will be looking at my grades more than the playbook.

TDD - Have you been to Duke for a visit? If so, what was your impression?

CT - I went to Duke for Junior Day (when they offered me) and I fell in love with the place. The Fuqua Business Center was most attractice in my opinion. Practice was so harcore as well.Ii loved the pace of things.

TDD - What is your timeframe for a decision?

CT – I don't have a timeframe

TDD - What do you feel are your strengths on the field?

CT - I feel that my strengths on the field are my intensity, relentless, and leadership. I played right outside linebacker for my school even though i play safety, and half of my highlight is me tackling the ball carrier on the left side, im just everywhere on the field. and when the clock is ticking, im the one to get the team motivated and back in the game.

TDD - What do you feel you need to work on to excel at the next level?

CT - I feel like i need to work on my speed of course, as everyone does. I run a 4.5 now and I want to get it down to a 4.4 at least.
