Elite Ohio lineman selects Alabama

Ryan Kelly, Scout.com four-star center from West Chester-Lakota West, Ohio, saw his offer list skyrocket when college coaches saw him in the spring. He traveled to several schools during the summer, but decided the SEC was the best fit. He gave a surprise commitment to the national champs.

"I think Alabama is completely different than college football is in Ohio," said Ryan Kelly. "Everywhere you go thrives around football. The atmosphere is crazy down there. The humidity is different, but I like it."

Distance didn't play much of a factor especially after seeing players like Mark Ingram travel all the way to Tuscaloosa to play football.

"If Mark Ingram's family can drive 11 hours from Michigan it's not that big of a factor," Kelly said earlier this summer. "The people at Alabama are so nice. That is the main thing I noticed. Everyone treats you with respect. It's a college town which is important. It's the summer time, and everyone is still talking about football. The campus is really nice, and I like the atmosphere."

Kelly is the second offensive lineman to commit to the Tide in the class of 2011.
