DePriest Ready To Announce

Five-star linebacker Trey DePriest is set to announce his college decision, and has all the details.

The two schools remaining in the hunt for Trey DePriest will not have to wait much longer for a final decision.

The five-star linebacker prospect from Springfield, Ohio, will announce his college decision Friday at 5 p.m. in a restaurant in his hometown.

The 6-2, 230-pound DePriest has visited finalists Ohio State and Alabama in the last week. He has been mum on the two trips, but Springfield assistant coach John Cupps told that DePriest was aiming to find a place that would be a good fit regardless of what happens on the football field.

"The only thing we really talked to him about was if you took football out of the equation, where would you go to school?" Cupps said. "You'd better be happy on campus."

DePriest is childhood friends with OSU verbal commitment Braxton Miller and was on hand when the quarterback issued his verbal commitment to the Buckeyes in early June.

Afterward, DePriest said his friendship with Miller would likely have no impact on his final decision.

"Braxton and I used to talk about it all the time, about how we wanted it to be like this but I really didn't expect for it to be like this," he said June 3. "It's exciting. It's every high school kid's dream. We talked about (playing together in college) too and it would be sweet, but if it doesn't happen then it doesn't happen."

Scout lists DePriest as the No. 3 middle linebacker in the nation and the No. 2 overall prospect from Ohio, behind only Miller.
