Valdez Showers is a Gator

Valdez Showers, four-star cornerback from Madison (Mich.) Heights, opted not to have a press conference this week. He called the Florida coaching staff today and decided to leave his home-state to head to SEC country. has the breaking news...

"He committed to Florida," said Madison assistant coach Chanterious Brock. "He called coach Meyer. He said coach Meyer was very excited.

"He asked about getting down there early. It probably won't be able to happen. He said coach Meyer is extremely excited. He had him hyped on the phone."

Valdez Showers traveled to Gainesville during the summer and received the blessing from his mother to commit to the Gators.

"First off when we went down to camp he loved the coaching staff and academics," said coach Brock. "His mom loved it. That was a big factor. He wanted a feel for the total package. Florida had the total package playing a high level of football every year. He had a great relationship with coach Meyer and the coaching staff.

"He liked Michigan and Michigan State, but he is the kind of kid who loves challenges. He would rather compete against the best, and that's what he is going to be doing when he gets to Florida." will have an in-depth interview with Valdez Showers after Madison Heights' practice this afternoon.
