Scouting: Pickerington Central / Plainfield

Pickerington Central (Ohio) and Plainfield (Ind.) squared off in game one of the Warren Central classic. Here are our notes on the prospects in the game.

  • Eilar Hardy / Sr. / Safety (#4)
The Notre Dame commit had a solid day. His team rolled, so he did not have a ton of opportunities to show his stuff and sat all of the 4th quarter, but he got it going for them with a touchdown run early in the game. He's a solid athlete with good size. He did not let anything get deep today in coverage. In run support, he looked a little hesitant at times and I think getting stronger will help him in that area. He's willing to come up and hit. He just needs to be a little more consistent with his technique. He looked very strong in coverage today though, which bodes well as he says Notre Dame is expecting him to play corner once he gets there.

  • Tamani Carter / Sr. / Cornerback (#3)
Carter had a great game. He had tight coverage and made a couple of pass breakups. He's quick, changes directions well and showed good ball skills, making the breaks without drawing interference. On offense, he showed some open field ability and speed. He's a guy who we may have underrated some. He does not have great size, which is one draw back, so he'll have to add some weight and strength to help him in run support, but he can definitely cover.

  • Jacoby Boren / Jr. / Guard-Defensive Tackle (#50)
Boren had a nice game. He was very solid on offense, and made a couple big plays on defense, including a sack. He's a tough, hard working kid with good overall fundamentals, and he showed good coordination and balance on the offensive side of the ball when asked to pull and get into the second level. He's not huge. He's probably 6'1-6'2, and still has some room to add weight and that will be important to him. That additional weight and strength will help him dominate. Right now, he controls his man and does a good job, but he doesn't just roll people. Getting stronger will help him do that at the high school level.

  • Taco Charlton / Soph. / Defensive End (#33)
This youngster is one to watch. He sees spot duty right now, mostly on passing downs. A 6'6, 235-lb basketball player, he has a fantastic frame and also has the athleticism to go along with it. He's still raw, and has to fill out more, but he has high potential for the next level.

  • Mike Brown / Sr. / Safety (#7)
Solid special teamer and tackler who should get a number of D2/1-AA looks.

  • Roger Lewis / Jr. / Wide Receiver (#11)
6'2, 190-lb kid with good hands and showed some run after the catch ability. As the season rolls along, we'll get a better idea of what level of a prospect he is.

  • Speedy Hammond / Sr. / Running Back (#20)
Tough back with good balance and a north-south style. Should make a D2/1-AA coach very happy. will have photos, interviews, and more from the game coming up, as well as more from the Warren Central Classic.
