Anthony spoke to VTInsider.com and named his top schools, and the Hokies moved up a pair of spots.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Anthony is rated as Scout.com's No. 3 outside line backer in the 2011 recruiting class.
He said the Hokies made the jump after he researched the school more and continued to build relationships with the coaching staff. He gave his reasons why Virginia Tech jumped up on his list.
"The history of that program, and I love the passion (defensive coordinator) coach (Bud) Foster and coach (Frank) Beamer have," Anthony said. "It's a real good program."
Anthony also discussed why the Gators remain his top choice.
"During my spring visit down there, I just enjoyed it a lot," Anthony said. "I really connected with the coaches and the players. I like the feel down there."
Anthony was hoping to make several visits over the summer, but was only able to get to Clemson and Georgia.
However, his recruitment is a long way from being over as he gets ready to schedule official visits.
"I have three official visits I know I'm going to take," he said. "I'll have one to Florida, one to Virginia Tech, one to Clemson and I don't know about the other two."
Anthony does not have dates set yet for his trips, and right now is focusing on Anson's season after the Bearcats opened the season with a pair of losses.
"I need to continue to lead and stay positive with everyone and keep playing better football," Anthony said.
