1. With the regular season over, has the team met or failed expectations?
Record wise, Kansas failed expectations, going 1-11 after 2-10. Football wise, there was substantial improvement over a year ago. The
Jayhawks were in many games, whereas in 2011, many games were decided and out of reach after just one quarter...
2. What one player has made the difference this season?
RB James Sims was the difference maker for KU. In just nine games, Sims rushed for over 1,000 yards and that came without any threat of a passing game, a fact that makes his feat astonishing. Teams knew James was getting the ball and it made no difference. He established himself as arguably the best back in the Big 12. He will play on Sunday one day.
3. What are the key improvements that need to be made in the offseason?
They need to upgrade the passing game. This should come with transfers in QB Jake Heaps and WR Justin McCay. Heaps was by far an away the best QB on the team, but had to sit due to transfer rules. He's also established himself as a leader, even helping to sell recruits on the program.
In addition, they must upgrade the defense. This is happening already with several commits from the JUCO ranks.
4. What has been the dominant headline of the regular season?
5. If the recruiting class stays in-tact, what are your expectations for next season?
If things stay in tact and recruiting goes the way it's shaping up so far. Kansas will be in a bowl game a year from now.
