Texas Bowl Homecoming to Many

In just over 24 hours, Texas and Arkansas will face off in the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl in Houston, Texas. With the teams in the Bayou City, it is a familiar scene to a number of players on both teams. Here is a look at players who are coming home for their final game of the 2014 season.

As Texas and Arkansas are set to clash Monday night at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, this game represents a large population amongst the two teams combined. Of course the team from the Lone Star State naturally has more, but each has Houston area players who will play in front of a crowd of family, friends and hometown community members.

Texas coach Charlie Strong mentioned that when he spoke on the idea of traveling for the bowl game on Christmas Eve. 

“A lot of our players are from the state of Texas and a lot of them live in the Houston area so they had a chance to go home,” Strong said that the team luncheon press conference. 

One of the leaders and most out-spoken members of the Longhorns team is cornerback Quandre Diggs. At the Team Luncheon, he spoke on playing in front of a familiar crowd, as his hometown of Angleton is in the Greater Houston area, about 40 minutes outside the city limits.

“For me, I’m from the Houston area so I have a lot of family here. I get to put on for my city,” Diggs said. “We (Texas players) are used to the big stage and we know it will be a lot of burnt orange there so, you know, we will be at home.”
