Oklahoma started their 2015 football campaign with a 41-3 win over Akron and new Sooners' quarterback Baker Mayfield made his own statement, setting the school record for passing yards in a season opener (the previous record was set by Sam Bradford with 363 yards in 2007). Mayfield, a transfer from Texas Tech, finished his crimson and cream debut going 23-of-33 passes with 388 yards and three touchdowns.
Also impressive on Saturday was freshman running back Joe Mixon, who finished the game with five carries for 27 yards and three catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. Combined with last year's offensive breakout player Samaje Perine, the Sooners running game should only improve as the season continues.
This week, the Sooners will head to Knoxville for their biggest out of conference game versus the Tennessee Volunteers. As the team looks to earn their second win of the season, Sooners Illustrated's Bob Przybylo takes a look at the keys to an OU victory, above.
