Urban Meyer, head football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, took time from spring football practice to endorse Ohio Governor John Kasich in an even bigger competition—the Presidential campaign.
According to Dispatch, this action is contrary to a statement the three-time National Champion coach made a few months ago. “My job description is very clear, and that’s to coach Ohio State football, and the focus is on 17 to 18 to 22-year-olds,” Meyer said when asked about a political endorsement. “I have strong beliefs, but I’m not going to share that with you guys. I don’t think that’s appropriate.”
Thankfully for Kasich, Meyer's opinion has changed; he's going to need all the help he can get in the primaries. Kasich currently sits at 4th in total delegates in the GOP with 54, while leader Donald Trump has 461. With help from Buckeyes nation, he could potentially land 66 addition delegates if he wins Ohio.
Ohio's general election will take place on March 15, 2015.
