Head Coach Hines: Hines Ward Thinks Jacob Eason Should Start at QB

Hines Ward is back at again, but this time it's lobbying for Jacob Eason to take a starting role on the field.

If Hines Ward was Georgia's head coach, there’s no secret as to who he would start at quarterback. Ward, a Georgia legend and Pittsburgh Steelers superstar, wants to see Jacob Eason between the hedges and taking the reins as soon as possible.

While Kirby Smart, Georgia’s actual head coach, is in no rush to make a decision for the starting quarterback job, Ward doesn’t think Smart should waste any more time.

“I’ve watched a couple of his games,” Ward told reporters, “...I think he’ll bring a lot of excitement to back to Georgia,”

Ward was present at a joint satellite camp hosted by Georgia, Colorado StateGeorgia Southern and Kennesaw State.

As for the rest of the Georgia squad, Ward’s pretty impressed, too.

“I think they’re going to be good. But I’m really looking forward to seeing Eason,” he said. “I’m looking for big things out of him.”

Ward has expressed interest in coaching at Georgia after a successful NFL career and hopes to transition form his role as broadcaster into coaching under Smart’s regime. Ward said he feels particularly confident about keeping the best in-state recruits at the state’s flagship university and football program.
