Four-star safety Todd Harris held a press conference to Sunday at the Plaquemine (La.) High School gym, where he sat with three hats in front of him, representing his top schools, Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss.
When the time came to reveal his "decision," Harris pulled out a Plaquemine hat and put it on.
Harris' intent was to show he was committed to playing for his high school team and isn't allowing any scholarship offers to serve as a distraction prior to the season. Aware that some may have viewed the gesture as a look-at-me PR stunt, Harris' head coach rushed to defend his star player.
“Look, it was my idea,” PHS head coach Paul Distefano told The Advocate. “Please, I don’t want anybody taking shots at Todd, because I asked him to do it and he agreed. There’s so much going on with social media and recruiting. It can overshadow everything. Our deal was this: We want our guys to understand how fortunate they are to go to a school like Plaquemine High, where they have opportunities academically and athletically."
Harris says that he will announce his actual college decision before his senior season begins.
