HOU Notebook (5/21/14) – 2015 Edition

Scout.com has had lots of activity in the Midlands region. Today, we look at a few recruiting notes from the Greater Houston area for the class of 2015.

Coming in Bunches for Iwuagwu
Like many do, Westfield offensive lineman Cordel Iwuagwu too to twitter to let the world know what has been happening with his recruitment. With that said, he tweeted a lot. On May 15 Northwestern, Fresno State and TCU offered. This week (so far) UCF and Louisville extended offers. He ended all tweets with the #Blessed.

Owls Pitch to Cats…
Coaches will just about do anything to land a player they want. Even if it means sending the family's pet some mail. That is exactly what happened in the case of Kinkaid quarterback J.T. Granato, who committed to Rice after his cat, Kitty received a letter from the Owl coaching staff.

And while that was a nice touch to things, Granato had many other reasons for making the commitment.

"The education, the rise of the program and the fact that I could be part of the best team Rice has ever had. Those are some of the reasons," Granato said.

More on Rice
Granato was not the only target for the Rice program. Dawson running back Brett Winnegan and Hightower defensive back Christian Bertrand* both received Rice offers recently. For Bertrand, it is his first bowl-eligible program offer.
*Scout.com traveled to Hightower this week and will have more on Bertrand later this week

First In…
New coach St. Pius Stephen Hill has seen quite a bit of success at the programs he has led. Getting started this off season, he wanted to get the word out for coaches to stop by and check in on his players. Earlier this week, his defensive back, Jalen Smith, got his first offer from Fresno State. North Texas was the first offer for Navasota cornerback Jerbrell Lipscomb. Staying with that position, Klein Oak cornerback Tristen Gomez got his first offer from West Texas A&M (DII).

Offers Pouring In (and there's a lot)…
From Bush, offside lineman Josh Jones had Wake Forest over the weekend. It was Oklahoma State offering earlier this week.

From Jersey Village defenders, linebacker Jordon Williams and safety Christian Taylor again landing duo offers with this being from Wake Forest. Williams also got an offer from Northwestern.

Here is the tweet from Marshall offensive lineman Sam Awolope: Just scored my 16th offer from #Louisville! #GoCardinals! Also got Tulsa on the same day too.

Foster defender Andrew Martel picked up a Nevada offer late last week. This is his third.

Alief Taylor safety Kenneth McGruder added Missouri and Louisville.

Utah and UTSA came late last week for Ridge Point safety Jameel Cook. Most recent is Kentucky, which is offer No. 9 for him.

Defensive back James Locke (PJ) from Beaumont Central has become a fixture in the notebook. Add Duke to his offer list.

Fresno State, which has been highly active in the city here lately, offered Cy Ranch offensive lineman Zachary Kinninger

Surely Marshall five-star defender Kendall Sheffield is losing count of his offers. Purdue offered recently.

According to Kinkaid coach Nathan Larned, offensive lineman Tyler Higby was offered by Louisville.

The Ridge Point Football twitter page said that linebacker Cameron Townsend was offered by Iowa State

Late last week, the Nimitz coaches said that LSU offered Boise State commitment Darrell Stewart.

Vype Houston reported that Humble safety Kyle Floyd has North Texas, Cornell, Southern and Army offers in hand.

Just after last week's edition, North Shore defensive end Dorance Armstrong earned a Memphis offer.
