Bakersfield Christian Head Coach Darren Carr Talks BCHS and Derek Carr

Darren Carr and Family took over the Bakersfield Christian High School football program and are working hard on building a solid tradition. The Barkboard’s Lucio Ourique caught up with Head Coach Darren Carr to talk about BCHS and he also shares his thoughts on former Fresno State Quarterback and younger brother Derek Carr.

When Head Coach Darren Carr took over the Bakersfield Christian High School Football program, he brought his family along with him. Together with his brother David, and father Rodger, and an occasional appearance from younger brother Derek Carr, they’ve been quietly building a program filled with tradition. Now BCHS is poised to take the valley by storm.

After getting a chance to watch this team in person, I came away impressed with the level of talent at the Senior and Junior level. BCHS has quietly become a program full of hidden gems that could fit in nicely at any college program. One of the players who instantly caught my eye was Junior Quarterback Braden Wingle!

Wingle is quietly becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the south valley. Standing tall at 6-foot-5 Wingle shows the poise needed to stand in the pocket and deliver a beautiful pass to his talented receivers as a junior quarterback. Wingle is definitely benefiting from the same tutelage that Derek Carr got from his older brother David Carr. David Carr has developed a great relationship with the young quarterback which has aided in his progression. When looking to pass, Wingle usually looks for his favorite target Senior Wide Receiver Jeremiah Foster.

At 6-foot-5 Jeremiah Foster is definitely an imposing target to find and is easily one of the best wide receivers in the south valley and Mountain West programs are taking notice. Programs such as Nevada, San Diego State, and Wyoming like what they see. From what I saw I find it hard to believe that the interest will stop there. Look for Foster to gain momentum as the season progresses. Another player on this team turning heads is Athlete Stephen Figures.

Stephen Figures is an all around athlete that can play just about anywhere on the field. During the game I saw Figures at a multitude of positions. On offense, Figures may switch from running back to wide receiver. On defense I found him at cornerback or at a safety position. Figures is even found punting the ball on special teams. Figures is also another player gaining interest from several Mountain West programs.

The talent doesn’t end there with several other young players going through the program leaving Bakersfield Christian in good hands for the foreseeable future.
