As first reported on the BarkBoard.com Insider Message Board on Tuesday, Fresno State and three-star quarterback commit Cameron Burston of Contra Costa College have mutually parted ways.
Sources tell BarkBoard.com that after a discussion between the two parties, it was revealed Fresno State’s best interest was to prioritize the pursuit of a mid-year transfer from the junior college ranks. In result, Fresno State landed the commitment of Jorge Reyna of West Los Angeles College while Burston will seek other options. He holds offers from New Mexico, San Jose State and Hawaii.
Burston first committed to Fresno State on Aug. 1. He is not a mid-year transfer and plans to sign to the school of his choosing on National Signing Day, Feb. 1, and then join that team in the fall. Reyna, however, plans to sign to Fresno State this month and will then join the team for spring practice. Reyna was also evaluated as a three-star recruit recently.
Burston is the fourth recruit in two days to have their decommitment revealed from Fresno State. All four committed to Fresno State when former head coach Tim DeRuyter and his staff were in place. A fifth decommit, Demetrius Murray, had previously decommitted and has already picked Ball State as his new home.
Fresno State’s first commitment of the 2017 class, Cody Watson of Hollywood, Florida, announced his decommitment Wednesday evening. According to his tweet, his offer no longer stood after the coaching change. He had no other reported offers.
Three-star safety Justin Wafer of Los Angeles (Calif.) Augustus Hawkins High School announced Wednesday morning that he was reopening his recruitment.
Wafer holds offers from Boise State and Ball State, as well as offers from the previous coaching staffs at Nevada and San Jose State. He previously committed to Fresno State on Sept. 22.
Another commit, Javon McInnis of Irving (Texas) Ranchview High School decommitted Wednesday afternoon.
McInnis holds offers from Stephen F Austin and Texas A&M - Commerce.
