Coach Tony Tuioti has probably been the most active coach on the recruiting trail in California and Hawaii since arriving at Fresno State and has no intention of slowing down until signing day. One of the first stops has been to Lawndale High to meet with DT J.J. Liavaa as a potential 2017 prospect. Even though Tuioti has met with Liavaa on multiple occasions the Bulldogs have yet to pull the trigger on an offer.
Even though spots are filling up fast on the 2017 recruiting class for the Bulldogs, the DT position is still one of need and a constant focus until signing day on February 1. When asked about the Fresno State interest and why the bulldogs have not offered, Liavaa answered “Coach Tuioti told me they want to see how I do on my SAT’s”, something that the Bulldogs have told several potential prospects in the last few days.
Up until the recent interest from Fresno State in the 6-foot-2 277-lbs defensive tackle, Liavaa was beginning to wonder if anyone would show any interest. Coach Tuioti has and for good reason. On film Liavaa shows all the tools and skills to successful at the collegiate level. Tuioti has taken the time to foster a relationship with Liavaa while both Liavaa and Tuioti await SAT scores from an exam that Liavaa took just yesterday.
Once Liavaa receives his scores and other offers that Fresno State extended get resolved, the Bulldogs and Liavaa should know where they stand with each other as signing day approaches.
